The Aquatic Center is situated along the coast in San Francisco, California and is the former site of Sutro Baths complex. The concept is to echo the horizontality of the Pacific Ocean in the long span structure as well as to incorporate the natural ecology of the site within the interior. The building spans across the upper end of the site and is partially embedded in the ground. The entrance is by a pedestrian bridge from the east side parking deck. Its close proximity to the historical pathway allows locals and tourists to explore the structural remnants of Sutro Baths. At the core of the structure is a ramp wrapped around a terrarium, so the journey down to the aquatic center becomes immersed in nature.
